Stop rescanning and check whether the travel eSIM is already in the phone’s SIM list. Do not delete it to make the QR code work again. An already-used or no-longer-valid message may follow a successful or interrupted installation; the wording alone does not prove which happened.
This is a recovery check, not another installation walkthrough. If the profile is present, the next task is normally connecting that line. If it is absent or was removed, you need the provider to confirm whether that exact profile can be recovered or replaced.

Check the phone before the code
- Open the SIM list: iPhone Settings → Cellular or Mobile Data; Pixel Settings → Network & internet → SIMs; Galaxy Settings → Connections → SIM manager. Names vary.
- Look for a recently added travel profile. Match it with the order or a provider-supplied identifier rather than relying only on the name Secondary.
- If it is present, keep it installed. Use the data-connection checklist or pre-departure activation guide for the next step.
- If it is absent, check whether you previously installed it on another phone, removed it, or had a failed download. Record what happened before asking support.
An app button that still says Install is not more reliable than checking both the phone and the provider’s order status. Equally, a profile with a familiar name might be from an older trip. If the identity is uncertain, ask support to match the profile rather than deleting the one you think is wrong.
Use the result to choose a safe next action
| What you find | Next action | Do not do this |
|---|---|---|
| Matching profile is installed | Follow its connection instructions | Add the same profile again just to clear the error |
| You deleted the profile | Ask about plan-specific recovery or replacement | Assume the original QR remains reusable |
| The profile is on another device | Ask about the provider’s transfer policy | Test the code on more phones |
| No profile and no known successful download | Check original order, stable internet and provider support | Buy again before understanding the first order |

Airalo: code errors and recovery are not the same promise
With an Airalo eSIM, a no-longer-valid error can follow a previous installation or an interrupted scan on a poor connection. Check the installed profile before assuming the order is unusable. A manual activation string is another way to install the same profile, not a way to reset a consumed credential.
For Airalo, keep the existing profile if you still need it. If it was deleted, the plan-specific recovery flow may show “Deleted your eSIM?” and check whether recovery, replacement or support is available. An available recovery check is not a guarantee. Follow its result rather than repeatedly scanning the original QR.
These limits belong to the provider and profile concerned. Another provider may use a different replacement or transfer process. A package supporting top-ups does not, by itself, establish that its installation code is reusable or that unused data can be moved to another phone.
If this was the first installation attempt
Use the original provider app or order email on reliable internet. Check that the code belongs to this purchase and that the download method is supported on your device. Do not upload the QR to a public scanner or code-decoding website to inspect it.
For Airalo, the error guidance also identifies connection or VPN interference as possible causes. If it is safe and permitted, you can briefly test without a personal VPN, then restore it. Do not remove employer-management profiles or erase other eSIMs to create space without first confirming what they are and how they could be recovered.
If support confirms the profile has not been consumed and gives a supported retry method, use that method once and note the result. For the actual download procedure, return to the installation guide. A fresh attempt is not a reason to improvise server addresses or activation strings.
Before agreeing to deletion or replacement
- Ask whether recovery uses the same profile or a new one, and whether it must be installed on the original device.
- Confirm what happens to unused data and the existing validity period. Do not assume either will restart.
- Keep a working internet connection available for the approved recovery steps.
- Save the support case reference and replacement instructions before removing anything.

What to share—and what to conceal
Send the provider your order reference, device model/software, exact error and whether the profile is still present. Say if it was installed or deleted on another device. An ICCID or EID may help verified support match the case, but share identifiers only through its private authorised channel if requested.
Never post the QR code, manual activation string, passwords or full identifiers in a review, forum or social-media screenshot. Conceal them before sharing an error image. Support can investigate an order without you publishing a credential that may grant access to its profile.
Frequently asked questions
Does already used mean someone stole my eSIM?
Not by itself. The same error can follow an earlier or interrupted installation. Check your installed profiles and order with the provider before drawing a conclusion.
Can manual installation bypass an already-used QR code?
It is normally another delivery method for the same profile, not a reset. Use manual details only when supplied for your order and supported by the provider’s recovery instructions.
Can support always recover a deleted travel eSIM?
No. It depends on the provider, profile and plan. Ask for a confirmed recovery or replacement route before deleting an eSIM you still need.
